The Village of New Bremen owns and operates its own electrical distribution system established in 1908. There are over eighty municipally owned electric systems in Ohio, owned by the people that they serve. The Village is a member owner of American Municipal Power - Ohio (AMP-Ohio), a joint action agency.
Below is a list of our New Bremen departments.
The New Bremen Emergency Squad, Inc. is an independent, not for profit organization founded in 1975. Since its inception the squad has provided 24 hour emergency service to the residents of New Bremen and surrounding area. They are staffed by 21 volunteers.
The New Bremen German Township Fire Department is a single station, volunteer organization. There are approximately 30 volunteers and the Department protects all of the Village of New Bremen and all of German Township.
The Village of New Bremen began a full time Parks Department in 2001, to provide an increased focus on this important Quality of Life issue. The Department provides for recreation activities and maintenance and repair of the ball fields, ground cover, trees, plantings, playground equipment, and the Public Pool.
The New Bremen Police Department provides law enforcement in the Village with six full time officers and five part time officers, including Chief Michael Skinner. All full time officers have completed mandatory training at the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy.
The Public Works Department maintains and repairs all village streets and alleys, public parking lots and the Miami & Erie Canal, along with water and sewer lines and traffic signs. Leaf collection, mowing of grass, street sweeping, snow plowing and brush chipping are also included.
Curbside refuse collection takes place on Fridays. Items should be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. The Village contracts with Maharg's Trash Service of Celina, Ohio, and utilizes a "bag system" whereby Residents must purchase specially-marked trash bags.
New Bremen is one of Ohio's 85 public power communities. Public power means that our local customers - residential and businesses - own the electric company. It’s an approach that allows us to offer quality and dependable service with reasonable rates. Our service is exceptional.
New Bremen's Wastewater Treatment Plant was constructed in 1986 and is a biological treatment facility that processes both domestic and industrial waste. It utilizes a natural biodegradation of organic, nitrogen, phosphorous, and other compounds in an aerated lagoon system.
