A ‘Tree Lottery’ program is now available to village residents. This program supports our commitment to maintain the quality of life that trees provide to our community.

Benefits of trees:

  • Increase Property Value

  • 10-40% Home Energy Savings in the Summer with Mature Trees

  • Air Cooling and Purification

  • Beautification of Village Streets

  • Helps Prevent Soil Erosion and Reduces Storm Water Runoff

If you wish to enter the lottery and are selected through a random drawing, the village will plant a tree on your private property within certain guidelines. The tree and the planting will be free of charge to the residents selected. Trees will be planted by the village around November and you will be responsible for the watering and caring of the tree after planting. By planting in the fall, watering should be very minimal.

Guidelines that must be followed to be approved for a tree include:

  • The tree may NOT be planted in your street tree lawn (grass area between street and sidewalk

  • Trees cannot be planted near old stumps or where dead trees were removed.

  • The tree must be planted on any side of the property facing a street. Not the backyard.  The Village of New Bremen reserves the right to modify this at their discretion.

  • Underground utility lines will be checked before planting and the tree must be clear of any utility lines underground or overhead.

  • The property owner may select the type of tree from a recommended tree list provided by the Village of New Bremen. Only trees on the list may be used.

If you are interested in entering the Tree Lottery, please complete the form and return to the village office by August 31, 2018. A random drawing will take place in late September during the Pumpkinfest festival, 25 names will be drawn.  Residents drawn will be contacted via their contact information on the form.  The village must approve the tree site selected before final tree planting plans are confirmed. If your name is not drawn this year, we encourage you to try again next year.

If you have any questions, you may call the Parks Department at 419-629-3563 during normal working hours of 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
