Pool Season Winds Down

Recently Rob Fleming, aquatics director of the Auglaize-Mercer Family YMCA and Village of New Bremen representative, Amy Speelman were asked for a summary about the 2019 pool season.

Despite the cool temperatures at the start of summer, the New Bremen Municipal Pool had a great season. Overall community feedback has been positive.

Under new management, by the Auglaize-Mercer County Family YMCA, new policies were implemented with two primary goals (1) increase safety measures, (2), remain open as often as possible, and limit the closings. Implementations of the wrist bands achieved desired results as it increased the safety of the children and greatly assisted the lifeguards. While inclement weather played a factor, management felt the goal of remaining open as often possible was achieved.

Other notable achievements included a nice turn out for both group swim lessons & private swim lessons. The staff worked very well with each other working around sports camps, vacations, & other events. Fleming stated “The village staff, on all levels, responded very well & promptly to any requests for supplies, questions, or other issues (maintenance) we had. Once the water temp got up to a comfortable level we didn’t have any complaints. I feel the agreement this year worked out very well for the village, the YMCA, and more importantly, the folks in town!”. Speelman added, “The village looks forward to continuing this partnership to best serve the community and patrons”.

The final day of the 2019 pool season will be Sunday, September 1st.
